In most cases, teaching and learning in universities are undertaken with an intention to lead theory into practice even then into innovative ways of improving practical applications. The traditional pedagogy suggests learning institutions support abstract or theoretical concepts with concrete modes of knowledge representation. Sometimes, students are exposed to some kind of specimens or modes that looks like a real-life experience. At other times, students may get a chance to experience themselves with a portion of real-life experience. However, it is not enough to gain a full understanding of a theory or abstract concept with a one-shot visit. This is mainly due to the less time of exposure to discover more learning opportunities which lead to a lower level of application and development. During my previous learning, I, therefore, felt that most of the approaches being followed in learning institutions have been from a theoretical approach, unbalanced the area, level and type of blending theoretical learning with real-life experiential learning. This has been true in my most of previous learning journies.
Recently I have had the chance to participate in a program called 3 ID labs, and that was what I was looking for. It has been four weeks already since we started my study, and I felt I have learnt a lot already, in my opinion, this would be a learning time equal to a one-semester effort in the traditional oriented institutions. The study started with identifying wicked problem-cases of preference where my learned knowledge will be invested? The most important part was that the curriculum is designed in a way to integrate the self, team and casework. In my opinion, this is the most realistic curriculum in bringing the learning-self, the classmate-team work, and the textbook-wicked problems. The approach was clear, integrative, human-centred, and practical. I am still learning more about the overall process. what impressed me more was the wicked problems are viewed from the human-centred design thinking perspective. I have less experience on this from the international context, and so I am so curious to see the branches of development.
Is there anything like this programme you ever know? I am happy to see and compare and contrast.
